The Jedi Temple, Atton's Coruscant, Monday Evening

Atton hadn't been kidding when he'd told Sparkle he was busy-- he didn't even have the time to linger on the island after the end of his class. A portal back to Coruscant, then two briefings about the pirates - one to him, one by him - and the rest of the afternoon had been spent coordinating their next moves with the various Republic agencies that, at least hypothetically, were going to pitch in for their effort to clear out the major trade routes.

Tomorrow, he'd be making a quick scouting run to make sure everything was on the up and up. If he was lucky, and nothing terrible went wrong, maybe he'd have the 24 hours after that off. Then he'd be back on the trade lanes, trying to find connections to possible pirate headquarters on Coruscant and around the Mid Rim, and...

... basically, he should be sleeping, now that he had an hour or six to himself.

Instead, he was crossing lightsabers with Her Royal Jedi Highness Bastila Shan again.

"Had enough?" Bastila asked.

She gave her lightsaber a little twirl, the double blades cutting through the air like a dance. She wasn't panting. Atton was.

He had a long way to go before he'd be anywhere near good enough at this. He knew that. But that was only half the reason he was sparring with her right now anyway.

"Give me a minute," he said. "I wanted to talk to you anyway."

She arched an eyebrow.

"About Meetra," he said.

"I already told Mical all he wanted to know," Bastila noted, her tone going a bit stiff. "She is dead. And Revan likely with her..."

Funny, how she sounded like she didn't really believe that. "Yeah, yeah, she's dead, book's closed," Atton muttered. For most around here, anyway. He had a feeling Bastila understood his feelings on the matter, even if she was putting on the whole Ice Queen routine. "Read me a page from it anyway?"

She let out an irritated sigh. "She turned up on my doorstep with Tee-Three shortly after leaving you," she recited. "Tee-Three dipped into his memory banks, and told us Revan had previously visited a dead planet called Nathema, where he stayed for many months. She decided that would be the best place to start her search. She went off coms shortly after leaving."

"Nathema," Atton echoed. "Mical mentioned the name, but he never really got into the specifics." Probably because he'd been afraid Atton would do something stupid. Ugh. Sure, they'd all been a little lost after Meetra left, but Atton wouldn't be Atton if he wasn't going to hold Mical's complete inability to help out on the search against him.

"We also established it was likely HK-47 had gone off in search of Revan," Bastila said. She turned off the blades of her lightsaber; she was suddenly no longer in the mood to spar. "I was told you and yours were looking into it."

Atton snorted. "You seen the state of the galaxy right now?" he said. "We haven't exactly had time to go chasing off after homicidal droids." Besides, a droid like HK-47, you were better seeing the back of.

"He could be causing harm elsewhere in the galaxy."

"And if he makes noise, we'll find him," Atton said. He clicked off his own lightsaber. "That's it?"

"I am not the one who found the Ebon Hawk again," Bastila pointed out mildly. "If there is anyone who should know more, it's you."

He sighed. "I don't," he said. "But I should. I've been running around trying to fix things here, when we should probably--"

"Focus on the galaxy." Bastila sounded tired. "Surik felt her efforts were best-served running after my husband, too. She died for it, and you can't tell me her loss has contributed anything to your work here. I want to know as much as you do, but I... I don't think we're best served running after ghosts."

Atton clipped the lightsaber to his belt. "Maybe," he said.

There were days he strongly agreed. And then there were days wasn't so sure.

Nathema. A dead planet that had seemingly swallowed two of history's greatest Jedi whole. That was a scab too big for him to sensibly pick at.

But he wanted to.
