MCA #4, Monday Evening

Atton had woken up that morning with only a passable idea of what had happened the previous night; there'd been five full bottles of juma in his fridge, no food anywhere, and an overly enthusiastic message from Skywalker confirming drinking plans Atton had no memory of proposing to the guy. He'd decided the wise thing to do was to get back into bed and maybe not get out of it until he stopped feeling completely miserable on every level.

By five PM, he'd given up on that, and ordered pizza.

By eight PM, he'd opened the second bottle of juma and he was waiting, patiently, for the inevitable dramatic knock/sweep into the room combo that generally heralded Skywalker arriving just about anywhere.

"People wish they could take your robe and shoot it straight up into Mustafar," Atton retorted.

"Filthy lies," Anakin proclaimed, sloshing more booze into his cup. "They love me. Well, not really. They tolerate me."

"On your good days," Atton tacked on.

"True enough," Anakin said, "but I don't really want to be friends with students. That's weird and creepy."

Atton pulled a face. "Thanks."

"After they're students is fine," Anakin said with a hiccup. "But there were some really weird teachers here about ten years ago. One used to go chasing through the dorms and just...no."

"I have friends who are students," Atton retorted.

He paused. "...Had friends who are students. They're all graduates now. That's weird." He glanced towards Anakin. "...As is that."

"You're older now, so it'll get weirder now that your friends aren't students any more," Anakin said.

"Not sure if I'm looking forward to that or not," Atton muttered. "I wasn't planning to get this old."

"That happens a lot in wars," Anakin said.

"It's weird. I mean, not that I planned to die, just..."

Anakin shrugged. "You start figuring the odds will catch up eventually, or something. At least, that's how it was for me."

"Same here," Atton said. He finished the bottle. "Pretty sure last summer was supposed to be my curtain call."

"Don't confuse this with me liking you or anything, but I'm glad it wasn't."

"You like me," Atton retorted, "I've seen you go all adorable puppy face about it. Leave the playing the hardass card to the professionals."

"I do not have an adorable puppy face!" Anakin declared.

"Yeah, you do," Atton said, and promptly attempted to imitate it.

It would've looked deeply ironic on him even if he hadn't been drunk.

Anakin snorted alcohol out of his nose. "What was that?"

"An expression I can't reproduce because I," Atton said, reaching for a nearby bottle of juma, "Am a badass."

"So am I," Anakin said. "I can prove it!"

This will only end in tears.

"You're really good at glowering and throwing people through doors," Atton said, "But you're this cute doe-eyed Tatooine kid underneath."

Anakin glared at him. "Not many people have ever learned that."

Atton shrugged. "Most people get too annoyed by your jackass act to pay attention," he said, "I'd congratulate you on the tactics if I thought you were doing it on purpose."

"I'm doing some of it on purpose," Anakin said. "I'm not really good with people, so I make sure most of them don't put in the effort."

"That's kind of sad," said Atton, who did much worse. For complicated reasons, but still.
