MCA #4, Monday Evening

Atton had woken up that morning with only a passable idea of what had happened the previous night; there'd been five full bottles of juma in his fridge, no food anywhere, and an overly enthusiastic message from Skywalker confirming drinking plans Atton had no memory of proposing to the guy. He'd decided the wise thing to do was to get back into bed and maybe not get out of it until he stopped feeling completely miserable on every level.

By five PM, he'd given up on that, and ordered pizza.

By eight PM, he'd opened the second bottle of juma and he was waiting, patiently, for the inevitable dramatic knock/sweep into the room combo that generally heralded Skywalker arriving just about anywhere.

"Friend of mine is going to get booted out of his house, so pretty bad," Atton hedged.

Please. That part at least had been a distraction, if a depressing one.

He set the glass down in front of Anakin, then shoved the juma in his general direction.

Anakin put the whiskey down and reached for the juma, pouring a healthy measure into his glass. "Roommate dispute or a landlord thing?" he asked.

"Neighborhood running him out of town for not being appropriately rich and pretentious," Atton said, before grabbing for the whiskey.

He'd had enough juma that he wouldn't be complaining too much about the taste.

"Ugh," Anakin said feelingly. "No notice, I presume."

[suitably_heroic]

"Oh, there was a hearing about it yesterday," Atton said, "Which the owner of the house screwed up in the most spectacular way since-- well, going by the stories, since you went all, y'know, Sithy."

That was an exaggeration, but damn it, he'd had a long week.

Anakin arched up an eyebrow. "So he killed a bunch of people?"

Atton took a few steps towards the window, opened the door, and pulled a face at the squirrels. They ran off. Whether they were scared or they'd just thought about a really good way to describe that facial expression, he didn't know, and he didn't particularly care either.

"Confessed to stealing a couple of things and being attracted to a minor," he said. "So eh, somewhere in that ballpark."

He was not ever specifying which minor.

Anakin groaned. "So he's going to jail and all of the rich people are now really smug rich people and your friend's homeless."

"Yeah, so that was fantastic," Atton said. He wandered back to his seat and filled up his glass. "And last week was a heap of stinking bantha dung to begin with."

"Thus the excellent life choice of drinking a lot," Anakin said, holding up his glass in a silent cheers.

"Hey, at least this way I'm saving who knows how many people from having to listen to you complaining to them about kids over the phone," Atton said, taking a biiig sip from his glass.

"Next week I'll inflict it on Obi-Wan instead," Anakin said. "Plus school started today for Juliet, so that helped."

Atton lifted his glass up. It was a fairly sarcastic gesture. "To something not terrible happening."

"Here's to no relatives at the picnic," Anakin said, clinking his glass against Atton's.

"I'm pretty sure that one falls under 'wishful thinking' until Sunday," Atton said, pulling his glass back so he could drink from it. "E chu ta."

"I'm pretty sure I've met them all at this point," Anakin said, drinking deeply. "I think we've only missed my mother and my first wife..."

"And wouldn't it be nicely untraumatic if the two of them showed up?" Atton asked dryly.

"They could be roommates," Anakin said with a snort. "Get a crush on you, and then I'd have to run screaming from the island and never return."

Atton snickered. "Well, I don't know about your mother," he said, "But it'd show a real improvement in taste for your first wife."

Anakin threw a pillow at him. Because he was twelve.

Atton didn't swerve out of the way or knock the pillow elsewhere or anything. Partly because that helped illustrate just how twelve Anakin was, and partly because that would involve jostling his drink.

"You're pathetic," he said. Mildly.

"Padme had excellent taste," he said instead. "Ask Obi-Wan."

...maybe don't ask Obi-Wan.

"The Obi-Wan who was close with your dead wife, that Obi-Wan?" Atton asked. "That sounds like a great idea."

Anakin paused mid-drink. "Okay, that's a good point. Maybe don't ask Obi-Wan."

Atton snorted.

He eyed his drink. Then he slammed the rest of it back. He needed it before he said anything else.

"So," he said, "Last week we had our one-year memorial service. Also great."

He was trying out this thing where he actually told Anakin something instead of enabling the guy into badgering him while he pretended like he didn't want to talk about it. Don't ruin it, Skywalker.
