"Shot down again, huh," Linda said. There was a barely visible twinge of a smirk on her face-- of course Atton noticed.
"Yeah, yeah, save me the sympathy," he said, grabbing a stool to sit down on. "Just get me a double of Jack. Poor girl doesn't know what she's missing anyway." He had ferrocrete dumped all over his ego anyway. A couple of bruises weren't going to hurt it much.
Linda snorted, but she poured the drink anyway. "This is the last of the night," she said. "We're hitting closing time, and I would like to make it home tonight."
"Don't worry so much," Atton replied. "You're almost out of customers anyway."
"Probably because you hustled them out of most of their money," Linda said dryly. "Thanks for that, by the way."
"Hey, I put my investment right back into the bar, don't I?" Atton lifted his glass up to her. "Cheers," he said. "To an excellent weekend." Full of drinks and bars and hopefully Sia getting over whatever her problem was so he wouldn't have to deal with it any more. That sounded amazing.
Linda leaned back casually. "You've been coming here for a while," she observed. "Want to fuck?"
Atton stopped mid-gulp of his drink. He set the glass down. "I've been coming here for a while," he agreed, "But I'm more of a do them then leave them kind of guy. And... painful as this is to say for me... I really like this bar and it'd be a shame if I had to dump it, you know?"
Yeah, he didn't even need to look up to know Linda's eyes were rolling.
"Your loss," she said. Very, very lightly. "But who knows. Maybe the bar'll dump you first, if you're not careful."
"If I were more sober," Atton mused, "I'd say that sounds like a threat."
"Not a threat," Linda said. "Just putting things in perspective. This isn't Moon's Lighting."
"I have no idea what that is."
"I have the box sets at my place."
"Look, the longer you keep glaring at me like that, the more I'm tempted," Atton whined. "Stop it."
Another roll of her eyes. "Drink your whiskey," she said, "I'll be over here trying to figure out if I want to break this bottle of Jack over your head."
Atton hit his head on the bar. "I need to find different female friends," he muttered.
