Office #30, Tuesday

It was a Tuesday. Atton hadn't been in his office in a long time, but it was a Tuesday, and he was in it.

... out of spite. The leg injury made it hard to walk for large amounts of time, so of course he had to walk all the way from his apartment to his office just to prove he could. At which point he'd had to take a painkiller and prop his leg back up on a chair and he probably wasn't leaving the office again until well into the afternoon, but he had food here and the HoloNet. He'd be fine.

Stupid leg.

He propped himself up a little more and opened up the simulation program for Thursday's class. Might as well put in the work to make it as fantastic as possible, and thinking about programming and numbers gave him something to focus on.

"Probably someone in your family," Atton mused.

There was a thoughtful pause.

"Probably Cade."

[suitably_heroic]

"Last time I talked to him, he was hopped up on death sticks and talking about catching a pair of cannoks and tying them to a piece of bacon," Atton said, "So yeah, probably."

Anakin sighed. "Is drug addiction better or worse than the Dark Side? Or just another path to unhappiness?"

Atton shrugged. "It definitely leads to a lower body count," he said. "Can't go around killing people when you're off your head and seeing stars in the bulkhead."

"Good point," Anakin said. "There are worse drugs to be on..."

[suitably_heroic]

"I can't say I blame the kid," Atton said. "I went on a bender of my own when I found out I was Force sensitive."

"Yeah?" Anakin said. "I was too young to do something like that."

[suitably_heroic]

"Well, I spent three months on Nar Shaddaa, then I came to Fandom and did nothing besides drinking, sleeping, and getting laid on the mainland," Atton said, shrugging. "Easy ways to keep the Force at bay."

Anakin nodded. "Kind of a waste of a life, though," he said quietly. "Glad you stopped."

"I'm still not sure I am," Atton said. "Glad, that is. But she changed everything."

"They do have a habit of doing that," Anakin said, sounding a little wistful.

Atton snorted softly. "They have a habit of thinking they can," he said, "and there's always some loser sitting around, happy to buy into it."

"I think the only person I've ever met immune to that was Obi-Wan," Anakin said.

[suitably_heroic]

"Bet there were plenty of girls wandering after him, though," Atton said, "Thinking they could change him."

"Not just girls," Anakin said with a little laugh.

Atton let out a soft snort. "Probably. Anyway, he seems like a pretty single-target kinda guy."

"Have you spent much time with him?" Anakin asked. He didn't want Obi-Wan to have gotten too lonely.

"I talked to him once or twice, but after the first two weeks of that class, he seems to have taken up facepalming as a hobby to the exclusion of all else," Atton said. "I don't know. He's a little too Jedi for me."

Anakin chuckled fondly. "It's his armor, really."

[suitably_heroic]

"It's also part of who he is, from what I can see," Atton said. "Armor or not. I'm not a big Jedispeak and there-is-the-Force kinda guy."

"Fair enough," Anakin said. "Neither was I. Obi-Wan was the exception."

[suitably_heroic]

"I'm going to be nice today and not dig into that," Atton decided. "Anyway, you're due back here, anyway. You can show up and de-hermit him yourself."

"Well, as much as I can for a guy who voluntarily lives in a shack in the woods," Anakin said.
