Knights of the Old Republic takes place a few thousand years before a Skywalker as much as learned how to crawl, detailing the story of a series of wars between Jedi and Sith. Of course. The original game was created by Bioware (yes, yes, of Mass Effect fame, I'm predictable) but its sequel was shunted over to another video game company I love called Obsidian. The first game was still a fairly by-the-book (if incredibly well-done) Star Wars tale of good versus evil; the second game, on the other hand...
Well, it's what you get when a complete Star Wars n00b sits down and watches, reads, and plays anything to do with the franchise before running indoors and writing a game that completely deconstructs everything he's just seen, read, and played.
It's been a few years since the Jedi Civil War, and Sith Lords have destroyed pretty much all of the Jedi. One still lives, though: Meetra Surik, the disgraced Jedi Exile who was sent away by the Council for following another Jedi, Revan, into battle against the Mandalorians in the war preceding the Jedi Civil War. At the start of the game, she finally returns to the GFFA to see what's up, and winds up tracking down the few surviving Jedi Masters in order to take down the current crop of Sith Lords.
Along the way, she recovers her lost connection to the Force and collects a crew of ne'er-do-wells who for some strange reason all seem to be untapped Force sensitives. She trains them, and together they beat the Sith Lords, sniff out the corruption in the remaining Jedi, and eventually her students go on to rebuild the Jedi Order.
Naturally it's not nearly as simple as it sounds - this game seriously deconstructs the hell out of Star Wars - but them's the basics with as little spoilers as possible.
Oh, and if at any point you feel tempted to play it? Do yourself a favor and install the Restored Content Mod first. LucasArts forced Obsidian to rush the hell out of this game, and it shows.
THE CHARACTER

Much like the game is a deconstruction of Star Wars in general, Atton is a deconstruction of the Han Solo archetype. He's a scoundrel who likes card games, women and good booze, an ace pilot and a decent mechanic, and he's always got a snarky comment ready for any possible situation.
But, of course, there's the Dark and Troubled Past. Atton - who wasn't born under that name - grew up to fight in the Mandalorian Wars, a bloody conflict that saw a ridiculous amount of death. The Jedi Council, however, refused to fight - they were still nursing bruises off the last war they were in, and they wanted to take their time to evaluate what to do and see if maybe they shouldn't stick to their pacificist teachings.
Atton was not charmed by this, to put it mildly. He built up a lot of anger towards the Jedi, who he felt had left them all to die. When a group of Jedi - lead by the aforementioned Revan - finally broke off from the Council to join the war, Atton fought with them. And when the war ended, when said Jedi fell to the Dark Side en masse, he was with them, too. He became part of a squad of Sith assassins whose primary goal was to capture or kill Jedi.
He was really, really good at it.
Then one day one of his targets broke into his brain and revealed that Atton was Force sensitive, and everything went to hell.
Knowing that the Sith would be more than happy to send him off to be broken into a Dark Jedi if they found out, Atton made a run for it. Changing his name to Atton Rand and hiding among the refugees, he tried to start a new life.
As it turns out, this leads him straight on to Fandom.
Anyway: Atton has some serious beef with Jedi in general. He doesn't like them very much. He's probably not going to seek them out, either, but anyone preaching Force philosophy at him is likely to wind up on his bad side.
As a result of his past, he's also terribly cynical and kind of a massive dick to... everyone. That's him, not me; please let me know if he crosses a line so I can reel him back in or otherwise make up for it. Most of the time he's going to be a dick in a very laid-back kind of way, though, so there's that.
Basically, to summarize, if when he comes back from his final catch-up years from now people aren't falling off their chairs en-masse after they find out that he's become a Jedi, I've done something wrong.
THE IMPORTANT STUFF: Atton's age & special info for telepaths.
So Atton's coming to Fandom under a new identity. Since he doesn't want the kind of attention that being a teacher brings you, he's coming in as a student. However, he's actually closer to 21 than to the 17 he'll be claiming to be. While he's not exactly going to go around hitting on 15-year-olds, I can understand if that makes dealing with him a little awkward. Let me know if anything in this general area becomes awkward or uncomfortable; neither is my intention, and I don't want to leave anyone with a bad taste in their mouth.
Moving on: telepaths!
Atton spent quite a bit of time working as a Sith assassin, and during that time, he's perfected several techniques that let him deal with telepaths and empaths quite effectively. Essentially, telepaths can't get into his brain unless they try very hard - he puts up a constant front of telepathic 'static' in the shape of playing the card game Pazaak in his mind, while throwing off empaths by falsely projecting strong but shallow emotions (cowardice, lust, and so forth). Likewise, it's often hard for telepaths to detect his presence at all.
You can get into his head, but he'll notice. And he'll react very, very badly; he killed the last person who broke into his head.
Finally, yes, this means he shares a time period withcataclysmicluck! However, he's from a year or two, three down the road. In the unlikely event that he spills something about what went on with Revan after the Mandalorian Wars, I'd prefer it if that doesn't get tossed at Zayne.
And that's all the general basics on Atton.

Ender Wiggin
endsthegame- Full name Andrew 'Ender' Wiggin, from that lovely book we call Ender's Game. He's currently almost all of the way through a very very AU version of the book Ender in Exile. Except not really. It's complicated. Due to Fandom's influence on his timeline, he's also currently just past Shadow of the Giant.
- Is a big walking bag of issues, mostly to do with how he's killed rather a lot of people, and also the bit where he had a manipulative, emotionally abusive childhood.
- He's stoic and distant in a compassionate way. He's not a big fan of attachments most of the time, but he hasn't managed to avoid them. Still, don't be surprised if he's kind but not close with your character; it's just kind of how he rolls.
- Lives with his boyfriend (or as Ender puts it, 'pain in the ass') momslilassassin, in room 204. At the end of the summer, they'll be leaving for Shakespeare Colony, and dropping off the radar for a while.
- Wears nice, if mostly nondescript, military-casual clothes most of the time. He's not as thin as his PB, and he has visible muscles, though he tends more towards a sleek swimmer's build than that of a bruiser or a bodybuilder. Ben's the one with the arms, not him.
- Will be teaching a really freewheeling philosophy workshop this summer that can best be described as 'Ender Wiggin Asks You Questions; Gives No Answers; Is Pain In The Ass'.
- Is a graduate after being in the game since the second summer term of his freshman year. I don't even know where all this time has gone.
Jeff Murdock
scary_jeff- Jeff is the world's most nervous man.
- He's also possibly one of the world's greatest connoiseurs of breasts.
- He has a theory for everything.
- And he's completely out of his mind.
- And he's Welsh.
- Used to teach a class with Jamie Madrox. Now he's teaching a class by himself. This can't end well.

Cablespring_lost- Is the Mayor of Fandom Town and hails from the Marvel 616 universe, straight off the pages of Cable & Deadpool.
- Kind of has a Thing with Deadpool. Yeah, we don't know either. They're raising little kid messiah Jan together. His main priority is keeping her safe, and has been since he, uh, stole her.
- 6'7'', half-metal, has facial scars and an eye that glows in the dark. He kind of leaps out. His mutant powers are that of telepathy and telekinesis, but his powers were heavily dampened a long while ago and he tries not to use them unless he has to.
- Also, because it never stops being funny to me, his full name is Nathan Christopher Charles Dayspring Askani'son Summers. Oh, Marvel.
